Serenity

At long last, Joss Whedon's unexpectedly cool (I'm not a huge Buffy fan) series, Firefly, comes
to the big screen. I will say this: the movie exceeded my expectations, considerably. I figured
that this film would totally blow-ass.

This isn't some sort of negative commentary about Joss Whedon's filmmaking abilities but just
a statement of fact. Movies based on TV shows usually suck. Even the ones that are done in
an ironic and mocking manner still don't really NEED to be made. It just looks like Hollywood
ran out of ideas.

Is America that hungry for stupid nostalgia? Do we long to be taken back to the magical
Chips
or
Miami Vice universes? Is America really flying blind in Ponch's absence?

I don't think so. So,
Serenity gets made and, against all odds, is pretty damn cool. However
there are a few 'what the fuck' moments that are, unfortunately, total spoilers so I won't
mention them here.

Psyche,
Wash and Book both die.

I never really gave a shit where River came from. I was much more interested in Book's
back-story. Now that case is closed because he's dead. Rad.

Additionally, I enjoyed Wash's comic relief more than anybody else's. Basically, two of the
major reasons for me to continue to go see
Firefly movies are now buried in the San
Bernardino desert under holographic gravestones. Great. Thanks Joss. Thanks for appeasing
the fanboys.

Kinda.
