Gangs of New York

If I remember correctly, Gangs of New York had some pretty mixed reviews. People either
loved it or hated it. I thought it was pretty cool myself. A good amount of boobs and a good
amount of violence usually are the two main qualifications for 'Dan Likes It' status.
Gangs of
New York
had both, in ample amounts.

Daniel Day-Lewis plays the villain in this story and RULES at it. He pretty much out-classes
the entire cast, with few exceptions - all of whom are bad guys. Martin Scorsese directs with
the usual level of 'rad' and even pulls decent performances out of far less talented actors
(and miscast actors). And, let's face it, few can tell a story better than Scorsese, even when
the script has a few holes in it.

So, the lame...

It's not even so much 'lame' as 'what the crap?' See, we have this awesomely escalating
drama between Di Caprio's character and D.D.L. There's this whole 'you killed my dad and
are now kinda taking his place and I look up to you but also hate you' thing going on, which
always makes for good drama. So, in the second act, Di Caprio finally decides to pull of his
act of revenge...and fails miserably. D.D.L. kicks his ass in the most brutal depiction of
head-butting ever seen on the big screen, that doesn't involve two male goats. D.D.L. then, to
the protests of the jeering crowd, decides not to kill Di Caprio. D.D.L. instead makes Di
Caprio a hideously disfigured creature. One who will walk the earth reminding people what
happens when you cross D.D.L.

So D.D.L. burns a little triangle into Di Caprio's right cheek with a hot knife.

Oohh. How terrible? How disfiguring? Who cares? I'd love an awesome facial scar like that.
Chicks dig that shit. Don't believe me?
What about this guy? Case in point. D.D.L. could kick
his ass too.
